Installing the control panel

The LCD panel is your control center - a screen and a click-knob you use to move the printer, level the bed, and start prints. It mounts on the front-right rail and connects with the rainbow ribbon cable.
For this step you need two M5x8 screws (small silver, from the bag of four - keep the other two) and the number 4 Allen wrench.

Step-by-step

1

Unpack the panel

Remove the LCD from its static bag. Notice the click-knob on the front, the Ender logo, and the mounting plate with two screw holes.
2

Position the mounting plate

On the front-right rail there are four holes. Slide the LCD’s mounting plate over the right side of the rail so its two holes line up with two of the rail holes, in a diagonal.
3

Screw it down

Thread the two M5x8 screws through the plate into the rail, then tighten with the number 4 Allen wrench until the panel is firm. Give it a gentle wiggle to confirm.
4

Connect the ribbon cable

Find the rainbow ribbon cable’s alignment notch and match it to the notch on the clip under the back of the panel. Gently push it in until it seats fully.
5

Tidy the excess

Tuck any extra ribbon cable back under the print bed so it does not dangle.
You can peel the protective sticker off the screen now or leave it on until the build is finished - either is fine.
The LCD is mounted firmly on the front-right rail, the rainbow ribbon cable is seated with its alignment notch matched, and no cable is dangling.

Up next

Next you install the Z-axis motor on the back-left of the printer.
