# Unboxing your printer

> Safely unbox the Flashforge Adventurer 5M and remove all packaging and protective foam.

## Let's unbox your Adventurer 5M

Today we build. We start by carefully unboxing your Flashforge Adventurer 5M, removing every piece of packaging and protective foam, and getting the printer set up in your workspace. Follow along with the video, then use the written steps and checklist below.

  Before you begin, make sure you have a **pair of scissors** and a **clear workspace**. Keep pets, siblings, and anyone who might grab a part away from your area. Kit components are **not individually replaceable**, so do not lose anything.

## Before you open the box

## Step-by-step unboxing

<Steps>
  <Step title="Cut the tape and open the flaps">
    The box has two side handles and tape across the top. Lay your scissors flat and apply gentle pressure with one hand while pulling with the other to slice the tape. Work across the center, then each side, until all four top flaps open freely.

  <Step title="Remove the paperwork and top foam">
    On top you will find paper and the **user guide** - set these aside. Below them are two large white **foam inserts**. Slide your thumbs under the top edge of each and gently lift them straight out.

  <Step title="Lift the printer out of the box">
    Reach in and grab the printer like a crate, hands on both sides as if grabbing two handles. Lift **straight up** and set it in your workspace. If it is too heavy, ask for help or gently tip and scoot it out.

  <Step title="Store the empty packaging">
    Put the foam inserts back into the empty box and set it aside. Keep all packaging - you will want it if you ever move or ship the printer.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Remove the plastic bag">
    A blue piece of tape holds the protective bag closed at the top. Peel off the tape, open the bag, and lift the printer up and out of it. Place the plastic in your storage box.

  <Step title="Take out the loose components">
    With the top of the printer facing up (you will see a white tube and a cable up top), reach into the metal braces and remove the packed items one at a time:

    * The **power cable** (goes to the wall)
    * The **tool package** (pliers, screwdriver, glue, and other tools rolled up tightly)
    * The **filament** spool wrapped in plastic (with a silica gel pack to keep it dry)

  <Step title="Remove the internal foam - in the right order">
    There are two foam pieces inside. Remove the **blocky rectangular piece first** (about 8-10 inches by 4 inches, tucked behind and under the tube). Taking it out first releases the lip on the larger piece.

    For the **large foam block**, gently push the **extruder bar toward the back** of the printer to free the foam's lip from under the bracket, then lift the foam straight up and out.

  <Step title="Remove the front base-plate foam">
    At the very front, near the FlashForge logo, is a foam rectangle protecting the bed lip. Gently pull it **outward** so the lip slides out of its cut, then remove it.

  Whenever you remove a stray plastic wrapper, sticker, or foam piece, drop it straight into your storage box. Keeping your workspace clean now prevents lost screws and confusion later.

## Do a final foam check

Before moving on, double-check that **all** foam and packing material has been removed. Leftover foam is the number one cause of a failed first calibration.

  Your printer is fully unboxed and ready for assembly when:

  * All tape, stickers, and plastic bags are removed
  * Both top foam inserts and both internal foam blocks are out
  * The front base-plate foam is removed
  * The power cable, tool package, and filament are set aside in your workspace
